In a deserted, crumbling hospital that once housed sailors quarantined with disease, a young artist carefully sets up her installation. The shot is framed to include the entire hospital in the background, emphasizing its grim and monolithic character. Her artwork, a series of large sheets of glass that hang from the ceiling, shimmers iridescently in the dying sunlight that filters through the broken windows. The contrast between the dark, cold permanence of the hospital and the vibrant, fleeting beauty of the installation is emphasized through high contrast lighting and cool versus warm color tones. The hospital, despite its emptiness, seems to loom over the artist, filling the space around her in an intimidating manner. The depth of the shot is achieved through the different elements; the artist in the foreground, the installation in the middle, and the decaying hospital in the background. From a high angle, the camera looks down, making the artist seem slightly vulnerable yet determined. As she moves around, arranging the sheets, our focus is constantly drawn back to her with smooth panning. Despite all prominent elements present in the frame, there is a sense of balance achieved, each complementing the other.
