A young boy sits alone in a dimly lit room. The room is predominantly filled with shadows, only a small desk lamp providing any source of light. The light from the desk lamp focuses on the boy and an array of paper; every shade of color imaginable with the deepest blacks and the most vibrant reds visible. He’s carefully folding these papers into the shape of various flightless birds – the room is littered with these paper creations.

The camera angle is low, looking upwards from the darkness engulfing the lower half of the room, capturing this solitary island of light and color. It’s a deep and tight frame that bottles the boy and his works of art into this small, isolated world. The camera occasionally pans over the boy’s shoulder viewing his nimble fingers deftly making intricate folds, bringing the animals to life.

In the background, we see a wall lined with wooden shelves, the boy and his creations in sharp focus, while these shelves blur into the backdrop. On these shelves are real animals – a calf, kittens, puppies; all appearing as stuffed animals, their eyes watch the boy and his creations – a juxtaposition of the lifeless real animals against the paper creations full of life and color.
